Powering an IoT-driven world: a survey of Energy Harvesting methods for the ZED concept
Emil E. Vladkov
6G technology relies largely on the mass penetration of IoT devices, which collect, do primary processing and transmit data in the respective networks, generating big data – something that is also known as massive IoT. Powering the expected huge number of such devices will present a real challenge from an energy point of view. This is also the reason why the concept of Zero-Energy Devices (ZEDs) was created, which use the energy available in various forms from the environment to power themselves autonomously. In the present survey the technologies for the so-called Energy Harvesting (EH) are considered, which are of primary interest at the moment, namely those that use radio frequency (RF), light, kinetic (based on piezoelectric and triboelectric effect), thermal and wind energy, as well as some typical scenarios for their application.
